Galaxy Nails!

One of the nail designs I've been seeing around that I really really wanted to try is 'galaxy' nails. I was a bit unsure of how to do it and didn't really have a proper sponge but this is what I ended up with. Next time I'd like to try to get some lighter colours in there as well for more contrast.

You can see on the pinky finger that I left a fingerprint on it - this took forever to dry! It had been on for an hour when I went to bed and was perfect, and woke up with a fingerprint that I must have done in my sleep. :(

Anyway, I really like the way it looked!

Polishes Used

NYC - Fetish as the base
BYS - Double Espresso
BYS - Chk Chk Boom
BYS - Thank God It's Friday

Ulta3 - Pearly Grape
Ulta3 - Deep Wine
OPI - Senorita Rose-Alita
OPI - Austin-Tacious Turquoise
BYS - Blue Black
BYS - Thunderstorm
Ulta3 - Silver Glitter

Kind of a crazy list, right?

First Attempt at Stamping.

Been a while since I've posted - time has been getting away from me a bit haha. I have a few new nail shots though, so I'll be posting them over the next few days.

This was my first attempt at stamping. It's definitely not perfect but it was fun to do and I love how it looks!

Polishes Used
Ulta3 - Pacific Fever
Ulta3 - Burgandy

I used the M64 plate from Born Pretty Store for the stamped design. So far I've found them to be pretty good! My one nitpick is the designs are too narrow for a couple of my fingers so I end up missing the design a little around the edges of my nails. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who notices that in real life though, so I'm trying not to fret on it too much. xD

White Daisies

Just a really quick post today - I did this on the weekend, and found it rather frustrating since my brushes haven't arrived yet so I was just using the nail polish brushes. Hard to get a small enough line!

Polishes Used

BYS - Sky's The Limit (base)
BYS - White
BYS - Fluoro Yellow
BYS - Matt Top Coat

Sky's The Limit is a very pretty colour - slightly darker than the photo, a not quite baby blue. Unfortunately the formula is kind of dodgy, even for a cheap polish. The colour itself is thin (four to  five coats for no visible nail line) but it's also very thick and hard to get even coverage with. Very slow to dry too. :( But I persevered!

I want to try this again when I get my nail brushes - tax should arrive soon too, and I might treat myself to some more expensive polish haha.

Another tape attempt.

Hello again!

My water marble nails lasted a week, but it got removed on Sunday to make way for something new as it had a few chips on the right hand by that point. It made me sad, but happy I could try something else!

This is actually an attempt at two things - using some new nail polish I got, and a slightly different tape mani.

In sunlight, not a great representation of the colour of 'Pacific Fever'.

In shade, a much better representation of the colours.

Polishes Used

Ulta3 - Pacific Fever
Ulta3 - Pearly Grape

You can't see it in the pictures, but both colours have a lovely, subtle glitter effect. I love them both! What's even better is they were $2.25 each.

To be honest though - I don't really love the nails. I kind of flubbed it, and came really close to taking it all off in a fit of temper, but I'm persevering and redoing the ones that I find extremely frustrating. It's a shame because I really love the colour combo, and I still think it would look awesome if I had managed it right...but I suspect this will be being replaced in a couple of days.

I doubt anyone is actually reading this haha, but if there is - how do you clean around your nails after polishing? I have really shaky hands to always end up with some on the sides, and a cotton bud is just not cutting it. =/

Acquiring Supplies, and an awesome contest to enter.

So it was pay day yesterday (woo) and I'm placing an order with Born Pretty! I'm woefully lacking in supplies, so I'm getting myself some brushes, a few stamping nail plates and possibly some other goodies. So excited!

Also - just an update on my last nail design. It's held up pretty well - it's now thursday, and I have two chips on my right hand but considering I have been treating them far worse than usual (stocktake time at work, woo) and I ended up using cheapie nail polish, I'm very very happy with them. :) Just a little sad that I'm going to have to change it soon, cause I hate having chips in my polish...

Also, I've been following The Nailasaurus for a couple of weeks now, although only officially for a few days. She's doing a completely awesome set of geeky nail art at the moment! I'm having trouble picking my favourite haha. She also has...a contest!

You guys, it's kind of amazing. It's open internationally which means my poor little Aussie butt can enter. xD And there's...pretty much everything I've wanted to play with in terms of nails in it. Fimo canes, some nail art plates, and some polish that I haven't seen around in Australia too!

She even has a pretty graphic showing all the goodies. Just click on it to follow through and read about it yourself. :)

Introductions

Hi there!

I'm Farsie, a twenty-four year old living and working in Brisbane, Australia. I've started slowly getting into nail care and nail art, and figured I may as well have somewhere to document my progress and acquisitions. :)

I'm not the type of person you'd expect to be so into nails. I'm terrible at make up, and have no sense of fashion at all haha. I guess you could just say that the artist in me comes out a little when it comes to nails!

I tried a 'tape' method of doing something the other day. I personally didn't like it - I need to work on laying the tape properly, so I don't get random edges and figure out how to not get such a 'ridge' where the top layer of colour ends. Still, it was fun to do and I had a few people comment on it, thinking it was in anticipation of the State of Origin. I...don't follow sports. >_>

My next attempt this weekend just past was far more ambitious. Water marbling!

There is a really great tutorial over at Hey Nice Nails, which is what I referenced. :)

I originally wanted to do something with Mermaid's Tears and Steady as She Rose from OPI, but after a few attempts decided that I'd be best to stick to my cheapies.

All in all it was a two hour experiment (including a spill of polish onto carpet and a panicked clean up), but I love the results!

Some quick tips:
  • Even if it's like ten degrees, it's best not to heat the water.
  • I found cotton buds worked really well at gathering up the excess polish.
  • Vaseline is your friend, use it around your fingernails and go further up your fingers than you think you will need to. I learnt this the first time I tried to henna my hair, and it works just as well here. :)
  • Glitter polishes seemed to like to spread out a lot, and are more difficult to use.
  • Don't drop the polish into the water from up too high, otherwise it'll just sink to the bottom!

Polishes Used

BYS - Matte Aqua as base and one of the marbling colours.
BYS - Matte Purple
BYS - French White
Ulta3 - Pearly Grape
Ulta3 - Royal Fever
Ulta3 - Blue Glitter
BYS - Top Coat

Taken in sunlight, on my iphone /fail

I'll probably do swatches of these colours in the next few days on some fake nails!
